TRACK SPONSORS 2010 SWISS TRIOS TOURNAMENT

The third annual Swiss Trios tournament was a sweep for Ebonite International equipment with the winners using Hammer and Columbia 300.

Sponsored by Track bowling and Coleman, the camping supply company, this year’s event, which was held at Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kan., had 29 teams from a five-state area, including Professional Bowlers Association regional tour titlist, former Team USA and Junior Team USA members participating, according to Matt McFayden, one of the event coordinators.

Together, Track and Coleman contributed more than $5,000 in door prizes, to accompany the $7,000 prize fund.

“Wichita State and Newman University had a strong showing, as this is the time of year where the best-of-the-best are showing up in Wichita to try out for both of these top-flight bowling programs,” McFayden said.

Utilizing the lane patterns from the 2009 USBC Masters, the tournament was bowled in a Swiss format with three-person teams bowling six games one day and six games the second day. A handicap event, points were awarded on a Peterson Point system, with teams receiving one point for each individual game won (including handicap), as well as two points for winning team totals, for a total of five points possible per game. Points earned during Saturday’s round carried to Sunday; the team with the most points for the two days was crowned champion.

This year’s winning team was comprised of Kevin Fanter, a member of last year’s Newman University bowling team, Hammer Amateur staff member Jason Toth and last year’s Collegiate Bowler of the Year for Newman University Derek Hartnell.

Fanter utilized the Columbia 300 Power Swing while Toth combined Hammer’s Plague and Jigsaw Trap.

The trio won $3,200 cash and will be featured on next year’s entry form, according to McFayden.

The Track 920T was the tournament giveaway ball; the sixth place team (first without a cash prize) won another 920T, a Track towel, and a Track grip sack for each team member.

“Track was a key component to the success of the Swiss Trios Tournament,” McFayden said. “We had a ton of exposure for the Track brand throughout the weekend and I consider it a great success. We look forward to a future partnership and are looking to increase to 40-plus entries and added prize money for the 2011 event.”

“We’re thrilled that Track could play such a strong role in a successful event,” said Paul Figliomeni, Track Brand Manager. “Track is dedicated to supporting competitive bowling, and the Swiss Trios was a worthy event.”
