Two years into the Track numbering system of naming balls, they’ve finally hit their stride with the new 508A. Designed to be an improved version of the 505A released Oct. 21, 2009, the new 508A takes the performance of the 505A and adds new technology to make it even more successful.
Creating the right ball is a blend of core, cover and finish, and the 508A is no different. With the 508A, the engineers at Track were able to take the best part of two different balls and make an even better ball.
One of the most popular cores used by Track was the Legion core, used in the 607A SE. The 607A SE was one of the most popular balls track has released in recent history, blowing Track sales records off the charts. When you’ve got a core this great, why wouldn’t you use it again? Track has taken the 607A’s Legion core and tweaked it slightly to make a better match with the new coverstock.
Speaking of the coverstock, the 505A featured the MP GEN3 cover, with a new performance pearl additive which helped in making the ball so angular.
“We wanted to experiment a bit and see what the 505A’s cover would do on the Legion core,” said Ron Hickland, Ball Design Engineering Manager at Track. “We knew we had a great core, and a great cover, so it only made sense to put the two together. Changing the color added another dimension to the chemical properties of the cover.”
As a result, the 508A’s all-new MP GEN 4 Pearl coverstock is so strong that it’s actually stronger off the spot than its predecessor.
The final piece of the puzzle is the surface. Finished with three different grits of Abralon® pads, 800 AbranetTM, 1000, and 2000 grit Abralon®, followed by PowerhouseTM Factory Finish Polish, the 508A has the length bowlers liked in the 505, but keeps the angularity they love in the ‘A’ balls. Therefore, bowlers who use the 508A will see a quicker and more aggressive response on the lane than the 505A.
Mark your calendars now as the 508A won’t be available until February 2, 2012 (available in 12-16 lbs). Check it out then at your local pro shop; until then, visit trackbowling.com for more information. Don’t forget to look for us on Twitter and Facebook as well.
