SCROGGINS WINS BACK-TO-BACK PBA SOUTHWEST REGIONAL TITLES USING COLUMBIA 300 AND TRACK EQUIPMENT

Eight-time Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour champion Mike Scroggins has been on a tear in PBA Southwest Regional competition, winning back-to-back tournaments using Columbia 300 and Track technology.

On Nov. 7, Scroggins defeated fellow PBA Tour player Lonnie Waliczek of Wichita, Kan., to win his 35th PBA regional title in the joint PBA Southwest/West Region Farmington Open at Bowlero Lanes in Farmington, N.M., and he followed that victory with win No. 36 in the PBA Southwest Odessa Open at Diamond Lanes in Odessa, Texas, exactly a week later.

In Farmington, Scroggins defeated Waliczek, 201-193, by throwing two strikes in the 10th frame of the title match for the win, and in Odessa, he went 13-3 in match play with a 6,884 total pinfall including bonus pins to outdistance second-place finisher Nathan Bohr, also of Wichita, by 89 pins.

In Farmington his weapons of choice were the Columbia 300 Full Swing and Pure Physics.

“I used the Pure Physics in qualifying and a combination of both balls in match play,” said Scroggins. “I liked both balls because they work well on a shorter pattern like the Viper. The back ends usually hook a lot at the start and all the play on the lanes tends to blend out the back ends as time goes on. I never had to fight the break point and usually had a consistent shot to the pocket.”

In Odessa, Scroggins chose a Track 607A Special Edition, which he used for the entire tournament and bowled two 300 games on his way to victory.

“The 607A gave me the best look right out of the box and I stuck with it,” the lefthander said. “I tried a few other balls but they seemed to hook either too early or too late and I had the just the right reaction with the 607A.  It stayed on top of the oil line all the way to the pocket and I never had to move more than five to seven boards the whole tournament.”
