SAM HOUSTON WINS FIRST TOURNAMENT

Oct 21, 2010

Sam Houston State University is off on the right Track as it goes 2-0 in its inaugural season.

“The first tournament win is in the books and with Track bowling in our corner, we are officially 2-0 as an NCAA Division I bowling program and have our first tournament win under our belts,” according to SHSU head coach Brad Hagen.

Lisa Cummins struck in the first frame in the Bearkats’ first tournament, the Piney Woods Shoot Out, according to Hagen.

In game two, Danya Galganski came through with two clutch strikes in the tenth to match Stephen F. Austin State University’s Nicole Parkhurt’s first shot strike and nine-spare 20-pin total. Galganski’s 28-pin final frame solidified the win for the Bearkats after a must-have second strike.

“We had a game plan and a goal to execute and we did exactly that,” Hagen said. “This is a great way to start our NCAA career as a team and as a university. It also gives us great motivation going into Missouri. I am extremely proud of how the girls came together during that second game and took on adversity and turned it into triumph.”

The coach said he is hopeful that this win is a sign of more good things to come.

“We are looking forward to having more great tournaments with Track equipment,” Hagen said. “Thanks for everything Track has done; we hope we can continue to make you proud.”

The team used a combination of the 920T, 715T, 505T and the 607A Special Edition, according to Hagen.

“We are thrilled that this first-year program is off to such a tremendous start with Track equipment,” said Track Brand Manager Paul Figliomeni, to whom the coach dedicated the win. “We hope that the Bearkats continue on this path.”
