21 PLAYERS USING EBONITE INTERNATIONAL EQUIPMENT ADVANCE IN PBA WORLD SERIES OF BOWLING

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – As the PBA World Series of Bowling entered its second week Monday at the South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas, 21 of the 56 players who advanced to this week’s match play rounds will be throwing equipment from the Ebonite International family of bowling balls.

Ebonite, Hammer, Track and Columbia 300 make up the Ebonite family of brands.

During Week One, 12-game qualifying rounds took place on the PBA’s five lane condition patterns — Cheetah, Viper, Chameleon, Scorpion and Shark — and nine-game match play rounds for those respective qualifying rounds will take place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Cheetah and Viper match play rounds will begin at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Pacific time, respectively, on Monday. The Chameleon and Scorpion rounds will be held at the same times on Tuesday. The Shark round is set for 8 a.m. Pacific on Wednesday.

After last week’s overall total of 60 qualifying games from all of the animal pattern rounds, three players using Ebonite’s family of equipment also qualified for the PBA World Championship stepladder finals which will be televised live over three days Jan. 14-16 at South Point. Those players included No. 1 qualifier Bill O’Neill of Southampton, Pa. (Hammer) who advanced to match play this week for the Cheetah, Viper, Chameleon and Scorpion championships; No. 4 qualifier Chris Barnes, Double Oak, Texas (Columbia 300) advanced to Chameleon and Scorpion match play and No. 5 qualifier Mika Koivuniemi, Hartland, Mich. (a mix of Ebonite products) advanced to the Viper and Chameleon match play rounds.

The top five in each animal pattern event at the conclusion of the match play rounds will advance to the stepladder finals for each respective lane pattern event which will be taped for delayed telecast on ESPN Nov. 5-6.

(Scorpion and Shark); Tommy Jones, Simpsonville, S.C. (Viper); Chad Kloss, West Allis, Wis. (Scorpion); Kelly Kulick, Union, N.J. (Shark); Dan MacLelland, Canada (Scorpion and Shark); Eugene McCune, Munster, Ind. (Cheetah and Scorpion); Brian Menini, Brookfield, Mo. (Cheetah); Andy Patterson, Tyler, Texas (Cheetah); Tony Reyes, San Bruno, Calif. (Chameleon); Kip Roberts, Glenallen, Va. (Viper); Greg Thompson Jr., Dayton, Ohio (Viper); Eddie VanDaniker Jr., Essex, Md. (Scorpion); Walter Ray Williams Jr., Ocala, Fla. (Shark), and Dave Wodka, Chatsworth, Calif. (Shark). 

In the USA vs. The World made-for-TV team event which will also be taped by ESPN, Koivuniemi and MacLelland are among the Ebonite representatives who will bowl for the international team and O’Neill and Barnes will compete for the U.S.

The PBA World Series of Bowling included a starting field of 252 men and women representing 14 countries.
