04/26/2009 — One bowler from Springfield, Mo. absolutely wrecked the rest of the Open standings during the sixth weekend.  Tony Yarbrough, well-known to many bowlers around the state had a very successful tournament, especially in the minor events.

Tony started his Minor Events with a vengeance, posting scores of 259, 278, and 287 in the Singles Events for the high series of the tournament, an 824.  That scratch total was enough to grab and hold the lead in both Handicapped and Scratch divisions.

But he wasn’t done.  Tony and doubles-partner Tom Stoner surpassed previous Scratch Doubles leaders Adam Green and Michael Wachtel from the St. Joseph MO USBC by a whopping 58 pins.  Yarbrough posted games of 223,245, and 278 for 746, and Stoner added 256, 178, and 279 for 713.

“The key to bowling well in an event like this is ball selection, as many people well know,” said Tony in a telephone conversation this week.  “I shot the 824 using a Track Uprising, and when the set was over, I immediately switched to a Track Kinetic Pearl, just because of what I saw happening on the lanes.”

Add in his Team Event games of 236, 198, and 237 for 671, and his 2,241 scratch total was enough to win both Handicapped and Scratch Divisions in All-Events as well.

In Handicapped Singles, Shawn Boutte from the St. Louis USBC was second with 818, shot on the same weekend.  Third Place belongs to Paul Massey, Jr., with 800 scratch as well.  Robert Thompson from Greater Joplin USBC with 792, and finally Robert Swearengin of the West Plains USBC is 5th with 790.

Second and Third Places in Scratch Singles are the same, as Shawn Boutte had 812 scratch, and Massey followed that up with 800.  Edward Cetwinski followed up with 772, representing the St. Charles County USBC.  Joshua Cowsert of the St. Louis USBC occupies 5th with 767.

Peter Kim, Sr. of the Central Ozark USBC BA also had a fantastic tournament overall, as he finished 2nd in Handicapped All-Events with 2,230.  Third belongs to Paul Massey, as he followed up his 800 in Singles with enough pins to finish at 2,229, with no handicap.  Scott Devita of the St. Louis USBC Association tied Massey for third.  There is a four-way tie for 5th place, as John Pietzman Jr. of the Northeast Missouri USBC, Christopher Hargrove of the Jeffco USBC, Daniel Disberger of the West Central Missouri USBC, and Steven Camacho of the Ozark Lakes Region USBC all turned in totals of 2,221.

In the Scratch Division, again we find Massey in 2nd Place at 2,229, and Boutte in Third Position with 2,184.  Fourth and Fifth Places are owned by St. Louis USBC bowlers:  Jason Cox shot 2,151, and John Brockland 2,144.

All standings are now official and Official Prize Lists are posted.  Low to cash in the Handicapped Singles Division is 682, and 678 in the Scratch Singles Division.  Low to cash in the Handicapped All-Events Division is 1,995, and 1,959 in the Scratch All-Events Division.  Congratulations to all of our cashers.
